Surviving the Splash Zone: Materials Engineering for Pool Deck Electronics

Why standard consumer electronics degrade and fail in pool environments, and how Fathom engineered IP68 anodized aluminum chassis to endure chloramine-saturated air.

Indoor natatoriums are among the most hostile environments for electronic systems on earth. The combination of 85°F ambient temperatures, 70% relative humidity, and airborne trichloramine gas creates a corrosive microclimate that destroys standard consumer electronics in weeks.

The Chloramine Threat Vector

Trichloramine vapors readily penetrate standard silicone gasket seals and attack copper printed circuit board traces, solder joints, and battery terminals. Standard IP-rated consumer tablets are designed for fresh water immersion, not chemical-laden indoor pool atmospheres.

Hermetic Sealing & Anodized Metallurgy

The Fathom Deck Hub Pro features a structural enclosure milled from a solid billet of 6061-T6 aerospace aluminum, finished with a 50-micron hard-coat Type III anodic barrier. All internal chambers are nitrogen-purged and hermetically sealed using fluorosilicone O-rings impervious to halogenated gases.

The result is a deckside console that functions flawlessly through years of grueling daily swim practices, championship meets, and relentless poolside splash.
